APPLY FOR EVENT SANCTIONING

Sanctioning puts your event under the AMCF insurance policy, gets it on the national calendar, and makes results count. Have these ready before you apply:

01
Lock your venue and dates
Sanctioning needs a confirmed venue, dates, and the disciplines you’ll run.
02
Confirm your head marshal
Every sanctioned event runs under a BI-accredited head marshal. Check the accredited list before you book.
03
Compile the safety pack
Venue risk assessment, first-aid coverage, and your club’s insurance certificate of currency.
04
Submit the application
Lodge through the portal below. The committee reviews applications in the order received — apply early.
Grow the sport

START YOUR OWN CLUB

New clubs are how the sport grows — and affiliation is what puts your members under the AMCF insurance policy.

01
Gather your founding members
You need a committed core — a handful of fighters, or people willing to become them.
02
Incorporate your association
Register as an incorporated association in your state or territory so the club can hold insurance and funds.
03
Apply for AMCF affiliation
Affiliation extends the federation’s insurance policy over your training and events, and is what makes sanctioning possible.
04
Get on the Club Finder
Once affiliated, your club is listed on the national Club Finder so new fighters can find you.
Run the day

HOLD AN EVENT

From a club sparring day to an interstate tournament — the same basics apply.

01
Scope the event
Disciplines, team caps, spectators or closed doors. Small and well-run beats big and chaotic.
02
Book venue, marshals and first aid
These three book out earliest — secure them before announcing anything.
03
Get sanctioned
Apply for sanctioning (above) so insurance and rankings apply.
04
Publish it
Sanctioned events go onto the AMCF events calendar with registration handled through the members portal.

TIPS FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS

Local councils and state sporting bodies fund equipment, venue hire and participation programs — buhurt clubs have won them before.

01
Have your paperwork ready
Incorporation certificate, insurance certificate of currency, and a simple annual budget — most applications ask for all three.
02
Target participation programs
Come-and-try days and women’s programs align with most grant criteria better than equipment-only asks.
03
Ask the AMCF for a letter of support
A national-body endorsement strengthens council and state applications — request one through the contact page.
Keep it safe

HANDLING COMPLAINTS

Every committee eventually handles one. Deal with it early, in writing, and by the book.

01
Follow the Code of Conduct
The AMCF Code of Conduct defines what’s reportable and the standards members sign up to.
02
Document everything
Dates, witnesses, and communications — in writing from the first report.
03
Escalate when it’s beyond the club
Serious or unresolved matters go to the AMCF council; international matters can also go to Buhurt International.
