Buhurt — from the old French béhourd, "to strike" — is full-contact medieval combat. Real steel armour, blunted steel weapons, and teams of fighters clashing until one side is left standing. It is not choreographed. It is not re-enactment. It is sport.
Fighters wear 20–35 kg of historically-based plate armour and swing blunted steel weapons. The hits are real — the armour is why it's safe.
In the mêlée, a fighter with three points of contact on the ground is out of the round. Last team standing takes it.
Accredited marshals control every bout. Illegal strikes, holds and targets are penalised — safety overrides everything.
Australia fights under Buhurt International — the global league with rankings, world championships and unified rules.
