Arsenal of honour
BLUNT. BRUTAL.
LEGAL.
Every weapon in the list is rebated, weighed and inspected — then swung as hard as a human being can swing it. This is the steel we bring to battle.

SWORDS

ARMING SWORD
One-handed
75–100 cm · 1.3–1.7 kg · 2 mm edge
Fast and balanced — the duellist’s blade, paired with shield or buckler for close-quarters work.
LONGSWORD
Hand-and-a-half
120–140 cm · 1.7–2.3 kg · 2 mm edge
One hand for speed, two for force. Reach, power and defence in a single blade.
GREAT SWORD
Two-handed
140–160 cm · 2.3–3 kg · 5 cm edge
Battlefield dominance. Overwhelms guards with heavy strikes — if you’re strong enough to keep swinging.
AXES
Break the wall

AXES

HANDAXE
One-handed
50–90 cm · 0.7–1.3 kg · 2 mm edge
Compact and vicious — quick, hooking blows that tear an opponent’s defence open.
TWO-HANDED AXE
Two-handed
91–130 cm · 1.3–2.5 kg · 5 cm edge
The shield-breaker. Crushing overhead power that ends exchanges outright.
IMPACT
Reach & ruin

POLEARMS & MACES

HALBERD / POLEAXE
Two-handed
170–200 cm · 2.2–2.5 kg · 5 cm edge
Spear’s reach, axe’s punishment. Controls the list and keeps the wall honest.
ONE-HANDED MACE
Blunt force
50–70 cm · 0.7–1.3 kg · rebated edges
No edge to blunt — pure concussive force that staggers the sturdiest fighters.
STEEL
Blade & bulwark

FALCHIONS & SHIELDS

FALCHION
Curved blade
75–100 cm · 1.3–1.7 kg · 2 mm edge
An axe’s cut at a sword’s speed — the aggressor’s choice for fast, slicing exchanges.
STANDARD SHIELD
Defence
50–120 cm · max 5 kg · steel or timber
The wall itself. Absorbs the hit, holds the line, and opens the counter.
BUCKLER
Parry & punch
30–45 cm · max 2 kg · centre grip
Small, fast and mean — parries blades and punches back in the same motion.

The kit

ARMOUR IS THE RULEBOOK

Every fighter's harness is based on historical armour from roughly the 13th to 17th centuries, and every piece must pass two gates before it enters the list:

01
Safety inspection

Helmets, neck protection, gauntlets, greaves — every zone has minimum coverage and construction standards checked by marshals before you fight.

02
Authenticity check

BI's Authenticity Committee sets standards for armour, weapons, tabards, textiles and decoration — keeping the sport visually true to its medieval roots.

03
Blunted steel only

Swords, axes, falchions and polearms are steel but blunt, with strict edge, weight and flex requirements per the BI weapon chart.

New fighters don't need to buy a thing — AMCF clubs keep loaner armour for training and come-and-try nights.

The line between sport and harm

EVERY EDGE BLUNTED.
EVERY BLOW REAL.

Every blade and polearm carries rebated edges rounded to a 10 mm radius, with striking surfaces at least 2 mm thick. No rust, no cracks, no shortcuts — marshals inspect every weapon before it enters the list, and a weapon that fails doesn’t fight. That discipline is what lets us hit this hard, this safely.
